We have moved our consultant database to an Internet-accessible consultant/volunteer database. In 2007, it was determined that the existing system was out of step with the industry, too labor-intensive, and outdated. A team explored a variety of options and determined that a database directly accessible by consultants and volunteers that allows automated communication to consultants from within the database would be the most desirable and efficient system. Through their search, the team found that an interface with the Development Executive Group’s Web site would best meet our needs.

In early 2008, we transferred our existing data to the new database. The new system allows consultants to create a personal profile, attach a current resume, and view and apply for open long- and short-term assignments. Consultants can also log in at any time and update the information.

The benefits are numerous. Not only does it minimize the need for data entry, it offers tools such as customizing email messages to applicants for a specific opening, organizing types of applicants into folders that can be viewed by overseas staff, and screening of applicants.
