Ethiopian Farmers Learn to Produce Milk, Butter, Cheese
May 6, 2009
The April 2009 edition of the U.S. Agency for International Development monthly news publication, FrontLines, features the dairy development project in Ethiopia implemented by Land O'Lakes International Development.
The article tells the story of Ato Abebe, a participant in the program.
Abebe once was a subsistence farmer, whose family went hungry several months a year. He learned dairy production techniques and became a new dairy farmer. After the program's interventions, he has found new-found wealth—enough to eat year-round and even a new house. He said in the article, "Having a milk-producing cow is like having a steady salary."
