USDA Awards Land O'Lakes Two New Food for Progress Programs
Land O'Lakes was recently awarded two new USDA-funded programs in Mozambique and Mongolia through Food for Progress. Building on its current program in Chimoio district, Manica province, Land O’Lakes’ International Development division will continue working in Mozambique through a new $15 million program in the dairy basins of Manica/Sofala, Maputo and Nampula. Working in conjunction with Tillers International, Land O’Lakes will expand the dairy value chain, improve the capacity of cooperatives, and address the unmet demand for locally produced dairy products. The program will monetize 35,000 metric tons of Hard Red Winter Wheat and use $2.2 million of Commodity Credit Corporation funds to implement this three-year program to benefit 3,600 farmers.
Land O'Lakes will support the implementation of a three-year, $4.5 million Productive Agribusiness Chains Support (PACS) project in Mongolia. Mercy Corps, which has a long history in Mongolia, was awarded the program and Land O'Lakes will utilize $1 million as the lead international sub. Leveraging its technical expertise in beef and dairy value chains, Land O'Lakes will improve productivity, product quality and food safety.
